7 Money-Saving Tips for Wedding Guests
Lost count on the number of weddings you’ve been invited to this year (lucky you…)? Here are some top tips to make sure you’re not spending bucket-loads of hard-earned cash every single time you celebrate!

1. Set Yourself a Budget
We know setting a budget might seem a bit ‘serious’ for such a fun event like a wedding, but the easiest way to keep tabs on how much you are spending is setting a budget before you start splashing the cash. This can be a strict budget (Not spending more than…) or a loose budget (I’ll spend about…). Just remember to keep one eye on the money bag during and leading up to the celebrations!
2. Book Accommodation Early
If accommodation is required, this is probably one of the most important tips we can give you. Booking your accommodation early will most likely let you access the cheapest prices for the best accommodation. This is especially important if the venue is more rural and the options are limited when it comes to hotels. Take a look online as soon as you say yes to the RSVP.
3. More Accommodation Ideas
To add on to booking the accommodation early - Why not book with a group of people who will be at the wedding? You’ll save money on taxis and accommodation by spreading the cost. Sharing a property from AirBnB or similar would be a perfect example of this.
You can also take a look at places to stay that are slightly further away from the venue and weigh up the cost of a taxi to your accommodation. It might be cheaper than a single room closer to the venue!
4. Cash in some Favour Tokens
It’s ok to ask for a favour when it comes to attending weddings. If children aren’t allowed at the wedding and you can’t bring your little one(s), ask some family members or friends if they’d be willing to put up with your kids for a night or two. You could thank them for doing so with a small gift of wine or flowers, saving you more money!
Another favour you could ask is to borrow a dress or suit (Controversial? Not when it comes to saving money!). Talk to family or friends whose clothes would fit and suit you to see if they’ve got anything they’d be willing to offer you for a weekend!
5. Be clever with your Wedding Gift
There are many ways you can be clever with the process of Wedding Gifting. If the couple have a gift list, make sure you get on it early to snag the best value/cheapest gifts.
If there are a bunch of you who are struggling with choosing a gift, pool your money to buy one big gift or experience. If it’s on the list, that’s even better! You’ll only have to pay your part.
Is your couple going on a honeymoon abroad? Find out where and exchange your cash gift into the currency of that country! Very useful, and will probably sound more impressive than your Sterling amount!
6. Be the Gift
Do you have a skill? You could potentially utilise your skills to make/offer something for the wedding couple. If you’ve got an eye for decor, offer to decorate the venue. Are you a musician? You could perform at the reception. You could even offer to make the cake if you’re a good enough baker..!
7. Be clever with your Outfit
You can add a little bit of money-saving magic to your outfit by asking for some favours as we mentioned above, but you could also rent your outfit so you’re not stuck with a dress you wore “for that one wedding that one time”...
Brush up on your beauty regime and learn how to do your hair and makeup to a decent wedding-goer standard instead of heading to the hairdresser or makeup artist in the week. If you can sort it out yourself, you’ll save a bunch of money!
