12 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Florist

Written by Ioan Gwyn

Choosing your wedding flowers might seem daunting at first - here are 12 questions you can ask your florist to make sure that you get the perfect flower arrangements for your wedding!

1. Do You Have Any Examples of Your Work?

You may have come across some of their work on Social Media, and it may be the whole reason you’re contacting them, but it doesn’t hurt to ask for more examples - there may be photos from weddings that haven’t been posted on their socials.

2. Are You Available on My Date?

One of the first questions you should ask before you receive the details is if your chosen florist is available on the day. If they’re not available, ask for some recommendations based on style.

3. Have You Worked At My Venue Before?

This is a helpful bit of info to know before your wedding. If they have worked there before, ask to see some of their past work at the venue. If they haven’t, consider booking an appointment to discuss some ideas at the venue.

4. How Much Will it Cost?

You don’t want to be surprised at how much your dream flower set-up will cost, so discuss your budget with your florist sooner rather than later. Your florist will work with you, your budget and your vision to create a fantastic floral display. Be sure to ask if they incur any extra charges for things such as delivery and travel.

5. Which Flowers Will Be in Season?

It may be a wise choice to check this as opposed to splashing out on shipping specific out-of-season flowers from overseas. Your florist is the expert on all things floral, so use this to your advantage.

6. How Long Will it Take For You to Set Up?

Make sure you know exactly how long it will take for your florist to set up at the ceremony and at the reception so that your wedding day runs without a hitch. Provide your florist with a schedule of the day that has all the important details.

7. How Far in Advance Do I Need to Order?

This depends on if you're ordering in-season flowers within the UK or flowers from abroad. It's a good idea to know exactly when you need to order to ensure that you’re able to finalise your ideas on time and confirm with your florist.

8. When Will You Deliver Personal Flowers?

On the morning of the wedding, you'll need someone to deliver your bouquets, posies and buttonholes to wherever you're getting ready. If your order includes hair accessories such as flower crowns and fresh flower hair slides, you'll need to talk to your hairstylist and find out when they'll need these.

9. Can You Move Our Ceremony Flowers to the Reception?

This is a great way of saving money and enjoying the flowers you’ve chosen for a little longer. What you don't want to be doing is carrying them between venues yourself on the day, so it's worth asking your florist if they can do this for you and ensure that your flowers arrive at the reception venue on time.

10. Can You Provide Decorations and Accessories?

It would be a good idea to see if your florist offers any decorations or accessories before you go and look for another supplier that does. Even if they don’t offer any extras like tablecloths, candles, votives or signs, they will be able to point you in the right direction to a supplier that does and that they’ve probably worked with before.

11. When should I pay the full sum? Should I pay in cash?

You should know when exactly you’ll need to pay for your flowers. If it’s with cash on the day then it would be a good idea to designate someone, like one of your bridesmaids, to pay the florist at the wedding.

12. Can I Change My Mind?

We would not suggest changing your entire floral arrangement a few days before the wedding, but if you’ve booked in advance then it’d be a good idea to agree on a cut-off date with your florist.
