5 Rules for Choosing Your Bridesmaids

Choosing your bridesmaids can be quite difficult, here are some rules to keep to to make sure that you choose wisely!

1. Choose Your Number

Before you start thinking about ‘who’, it would be a good idea to think about ‘How many?’. The number you decide on should loosely reflect your personal preference on how many bridesmaids is the perfect amount, and how many you want on the day.

Tip: Remember, you can always add a bridesmaid, but taking one away is MUCH harder!

2. Pick Your Nearest and Dearest

Choosing your bridesmaids should not be about people-pleasing. Take into consideration those who you speak to regularly and those you spend the most time with, who genuinely care about you and your life. They are the ones who will make the best bridesmaids.

Tip: Just because they’re family, it doesn’t give them the right to be your bridesmaid!

3. Delegate

To alleviate some of the stress of planning things, you can ask your bridesmaids to take on different roles on and around your wedding day. Maid of Honor is the go-to, they will direct the bridesmaids, be a point of call on the day, and (perhaps more importantly) organise the Hen Do!

Tip: Watch out for early signs of controlling behaviour from someone who might’ve “Been there, done that!”.

4. Get Creative

Grand gestures when announcing you bridesmaids aren’t for everyone, but you can still put a wonderful personal, creative touch when you break the news to the members of your squad. Personalised sweet treats or an afternoon tee with your ladies offer a great way to make a moment out of your announcement.

Tip: Don’t forget the flower girl!

5. Celebrate

Whatever you like to do to celebrate, make sure that you do it together. Your bridesmaids are a special group of people who will be intimately sharing one of your most important days of your life - that should be celebrated! So, be it a full-on, high-heeled Hen Do, or a lovely little get-together at home, make sure you enjoy yourself!

Tip: Have fun!
