How to Choose the Perfect Theme for Your Wedding

A ‘Wedding Theme’ is a creative reflection of the couple’s personality through the way that everything looks on their wedding day. Here are a few things to consider when choosing yours.

‘Tis the Season!

Most likely, you will have already considered the season when thinking about your wedding date.

A good place to start with your theme is to take inspiration from the season around you. Colours, flowers, menu, attire can all be influenced by the seasons. 

For example, a summer wedding could include bright, bold colours such as bright blue, yellow and peach. While winter weddings could include some darker colours with bright white contrast. 

Your Personality

Every person who gets married will have their own personality and preferences when it comes to how things look. 

Every day when you decide what to wear you are choosing a part of your personality to show to the world. Your wedding day should reflect this. Pick the colours you like the most, and talk to your partner (and hope they don’t choose a colour that clashes!).

Go All Out? 

Are you a mega-fan of a TV show or film series? Why not go all out with the decorations and cake (or maybe even the dress!) and create a theme based on your favourite characters or franchise? 

This all-in approach is not for everyone, but if it’s your thing - go for it! 

This Venue Looks Great!

You may or may not have already chosen your venue, but you will most likely take the entire ‘look’ of your wedding into consideration when choosing a venue. What does your venue look like? Is it traditional or modern? Indoor or outdoor? What are the colours of the walls? 

If you’ve already chosen your venue and are a bit stuck, take inspiration from the room/architecture when choosing your decorations. 

If you haven’t chosen your venue yet, but know what your theme is going to be, think about how your theme is going to look at each venue you consider. 

This Food Looks (and Tastes) Great!

Matching the food at your wedding to your theme can be quite tricky, but it’s one of the most effective ways to really get your guests immersed in your theme. 

Having a regal themed wedding? How about a medival banquet style menu? Beach themed wedding? It’s Barbecue time!
