8 Mistakes Couples Make When Planning Their Wedding

Planning your wedding is so exciting! However, you can easily get caught up in the excitement of the whole process and end up making some small mistakes. Here are 8 common mistakes that couples make when planning their North Wales Wedding!

1. Not Setting a Budget

Setting a wedding budget is one of the most important things to do when planning your wedding. You need to be able to know exactly how much you can save up and spend on your wedding.

If something catches your eye but it’s out of your budget, look at where you can bring the costs down as opposed to just adding it on top of your current spend. It’s not worth the stress having to deal with something you can’t really afford.

2. Booking on Impulse

We get it - you’re excited! But, don’t let the rush of planning your wedding get in the way of deliberating your venue and suppliers. Create a shortlist of venues and go to every single one of them. When it comes to suppliers, just take your time to make sure you’re not booking on an impulse due to one cool thing you’ve seen online, or one good review from family or a friend.

3. Enquiring Too Much

Options are always good when it comes to picking your venue and suppliers. However, if you contact too many people in a short period of time it’s likely that the aftermath of responses will be totally overwhelming. Contact a couple of people at a time - this will allow you time to deliberate the pros and cons of each option.

4. Not Reading the Contracts

You need to know exactly what you’re booking from who - It’s important to have an agreement in writing with your venue and suppliers. If your correspondence is face to face or over the phone, ask for confirmation emails so you have everything you’ve discussed in writing for future reference. You don’t want any unexpected surprises later down the line and make sure you’re completely happy with the service you’re booking before paying any kind of deposit.

5. Taking Too Long to Decide

Some suppliers will hold on to a date for you while you mull over your choices, but at the end of the day if another opportunity arises on the same day (and nothing’s been contracted yet) it’s likely that you will miss out.

Don’t leave them hanging for too long and risk missing out on your perfect wedding suppliers!

6. Asking for Too Many Opinions

One of the most important things when booking any kind of supplier is that both you and your partner agree on them - that’s it. Do not be deterred by anyone else who might think something is a waste of money, or if you think your guests won’t enjoy the music. It’s you and your partner’s wedding at the end of the day, and what you say goes!

7. Settling for the Cheapest Option

If you want something, and it’s within your total budget, get it! Don’t cut corners on something because you think it’s a fantastic deal. This fits in with setting and keeping to a budget but don’t default on the cheapest option if you can afford something a bit more expensive.

Be transparent with your suppliers about your budget. Sometimes suppliers will be able to work with you to provide something that fits your budget, which will free up some money to use elsewhere.

8. Getting it All Done ASAP!

Sorting everything out as soon as possible sounds like a dream, but how you get to the end goal is important. Don’t  get over-excited and try to book every supplier at once - you will be overwhelmed and deterred from the planning process.

Start with your wedding venue - it will give you ideas on what kind of suppliers you’d like as well as your wedding date and your wedding theme.

Booking your wedding photographer is a good second step, as they tend to book up quickly (especially with summer dates).
